Valley Music Institute is way beyond thrilled to announce the addition of the legendary Dave Hawkes to our teaching staff. Dave is hands-down The best drummer and drum teacher from Fresno to Sacramento. He plays all styles perfectly. He plays rock like a rocker, jazz like a jazz man, and funk like a funkster. I have had the pleasure of playing with Dave for over 20 years, being his friend, and now… Finally… Having the opportunity to teach with him is a great honor.
Dave Hawkes has been performing professionally in Central California and the San Francisco/Bay Area since 1983, and teaching since 1989. In addition to attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Dave is a graduate of California State University Stanislaus. He has studied with notable drummers David Garibaldi and Dave Weckl.
Some of the artists Dave has performed and/or recorded with include Cornelius Bumpus (Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan), Mic Gillette (Tower of Power), Marc Russo (Yellowjackets), Bobby McFerrin, Lincoln Brewster, Pete Escovedo, Clark Terry, James Moody, The Ink Spots, Clare Fischer, Carl Anderson, Bill Watrous, Chris Cain, and show business legends Bob Newhart, Joan Rivers, Don Rickles and Carol Channing.
